2020 – Top 10

In no particular order

Code Talkers – cheater Nez

  • incredible story of the 39 Navajo Indians that created a multi layered encrypted language that gave an upper have to the US in world war II. Classified for the next 23 year in case they needed to use the code again.

Misreading scripture with western eyes – Randolph Richard

  • Reveals many “truths” that were merely attempts to squeeze the Bible into our own understanding of the world and not historically accurate

Dear Father, Dear Son – Larry Elder

  • Very eye opening.

Basic Economics – Thomas Sowell

  • A bit like walking up a large mountain in waist deep snow, but once you reach the top the view makes it all worth it.

Bear town – Friedrik Backman

  • Insane use of imagery. He has a way of describing that I have found few to rival. The story is not much to write home about but the way he tells it is a true master at his craft.
  • “Sometimes hating one another is so easy that it is incomprehensible that we ever do anything else.”
  • “The worst thing that we know about everyone is that we are dependent on them”
  • “A long marriage consists of such small things that when they get lost we often dont even know where to begin looking for them”.
  • “One of the hardest things about getting old admitting mistakes that its too late to make right. The worst thing about having power over peoples lives is that you sometimes get things wrong”.
  • “There is always someone worse, you can get almost anything to look normal if you make enough comparisons.”
  • “Its easier to lecture about morality if you have never had to answer for anything yourself”.

Economic Facts and Fallacies – Thomas Sowell

  • Where do you get the information you use to justify your position.
  • “Never underestimate the difficulty of changing false beliefs with facts.”
  • “Ideas are everywhere but knowledge is rare”

What Did You Expect? Tripp

  • What you expect marriage to be, what it really is once you separate yourself from the illusion and acknowledge reality.

The Body Keeps the Score

  • How trauma and experience shapes us. Awareness is key.

C.S Lewis

  • Honestly I can put all the books I read by Lewis this year in the top ten. Instead I will use the last two spaces and put some of the stuff from a few of his works.
  • “Nonsense remains nonsense even when we talk it about God.”
  • “We often make a mistake about God’s forgiveness of our sins and the forgiveness that we are told to offer to other peoples sin. I am really asking God not to forgive me but to excuse me. If we have an excuse there is no need for forgiveness, if we need forgiveness there are no excuses. All the difference in the world between forgiveness and excuse.”
  • “Counterfeit good always appeals to a legitimate desire”.
  • “Suspicion often creates what it suspects.”
  • “A democracy does not want great men”.
  • “It is impossible to say whether or not christianity is true or false if you are unaware of what christianity is about”.
  • “The reader does not start by knowing what we mean.”
  • “We have a weird feeling that time cancels out sin.”

“Process saves us from the poverty of our intentions” – Elizabeth King

“The greatest danger in business is not out right failure. It is achieving success without truly understanding why.” – Burgle-man’s Insight.
