So today i have been typing out what i am going to teach for my Fitness for Life class. To be completely honest i have been a scum bag when it has come to that class. I have wasted the students money by not preparing for the the class and treating it like a joke. So i got super convicted about it last week and told the class that when they came back from break that the class would be totally different. I remembered a class that i took in college called PACL (Physical Activity and Christian Life) I think we had a different saying for the class because it was stupid back then. I cant remember what we made up but anyways, i thought back to that class and what i really learned from it. Nothing. So when i was home this past weekend i tried to find my old book. I was surprised to find it in the second place that i looked. It has to be like one of the only books that i have left. Reading through it i came across this verse.
1 Timothy 4:8 (NIV)
For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.
Now in the book they use the reference to point out that first and foremost you need to have a relationship with Christ because my body will be inevitably turned back into the dust from which it came but i had a realization while ready this that just as we train our bodies physically the same affect is relative to our spiritual life. In order for me to gain strength or go the distance i must train like i train physically, or how i should be training physically. It is an elementary truth but never really clicked like it did today while i was creating my lesson plan. I have preached and heard my fellow brothers preach about the spiritual life being a battle and that we at war facing the adversary but what God does it do me if i am not training myself or if i am not helping to train my brothers. Going into battle untrained together is just as bad if not worse than going into battle by my self. Not a very long post but it was just a light bulb that hit me that i didn\’t want to forget. Help me God to train myself, condition my self to perform at a high level so that when i do enter battle my brothers can trust that i can back them up. Help me to train like Rocky.
1 Timothy 4:6-8 (NIV)
If you point these things out to the brothers, you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus, brought up in the truths of the faith and of the good teaching that you have followed. [7] Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives\’ tales; rather, train yourself to be godly. [8] For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.
Train your self to be Godly.
