Work

I feel as though i blog about this same topic alot. I get it but dont do it. My basketball team has been quite the struggle lately with how they are playing and there work ethic. In basketball you have offense and you have defense. Most players develop the offensive part at a young age. From pee-wee on up the emphasis is offense becasue if you cant score you can win. Defense is neglected. No one really practices any defense till you are in high school with JV and Varsity. Even then the emphasis is not very strong. The craziest part about this though is that everyone wants to be like Kobe Bryant but all they focus on it the offensive part, his fade away jumpers and dunks. What ever is self gaining. I dont think young basketball players understand that Kobe Bryant is set to guard the other teams best player. Best player. Why? Because Kobe plays defense. He has perfected that aspect of the game that no one cares about but is needed to win a world title.

I see so many comparison in our walk with Christ. We are awesome at doing things that make us look good. Like going to church and acting like we understand and are impacted by the message. Thats the offensive part. We feed our guilty conscious and try to impress other church goers who really could care less either. We are good at that, I am good at that. Then we leave the church back to our fansy car, nice house, and still try and please men and our selve with things. We are good at this. But then when it come to learning about the God we claim to serve we would rather flip on the tv. Watch some office or house. Saying to myself oh i will just do it later. To truly grow and transform your life it takes work. God did not make this \”christian\” life a cake walk. We arent playing against the Colts. We are competeing against Green Bay. A prefect flawless standard. Its not easy.

Colossians 2:2-3 (NIV)My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, [3] in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

2 that their ahearts may be encouraged, having been bknit together in love, and attaining to all cthe wealth 1that comes from the full assurance of understanding, resulting in a dtrue knowledge of eGod’s mystery, that is, Christ Himself, 3 in whom are hidden all athe treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

This verse is an example of the end goal as christians. To have FULL riches and COMPLETE understanding. The point i guess is that there is so much more that we dont know about God and his ways. He is so much bigger than we can imagine. But it takes work. His treasures of WISDOM and KNOWLEDGE are hidden. It take work. It takes sacrofice to learn more about Christ and to become like Christ. We cannot merely do what makes us look good to others. Church isnt enough. One day a week with a brother isnt enough. Reading scripture once a week or even every day isnt enough. We must dig, scratch, and claw for it. I picture this like a mash between Glatiator and National Treasurer. Its going to cost me something. If i want to attain wisdom and knowledge its not free and i must understand that. And then i must do it.

I think for the most part we understand that first part. That it cost something. But we are unwilling to do what it takes to attain it because its cost it too much.

33 Oh, the depth of athe riches 1both of the bwisdom and knowledge of God! cHow unsearchable are His judgments and unfathomable His ways!

Just to re hit the point. It is not an easy task and is not for the weak of heart or faint of spirit. This gain of wisdom and knowledge take a true warrior. Work is defined as: Exertion or effort directed toward a product or accoplishment. Becoming national champs for my ball players takes Heart, Courage, Strength and Work. Becoming what God has in store for my life takes Heart, Courage, Strength and Work. The road is not paved and it is very narrow but after you have been beaten and torn what you find and the end of the road is well worth the sacrofices that were made

  1. That was cool man, Love the offense defense stuff. I'd ask permission to use it in youth group, but even if you said no, I'd just use it anyway so… Thanks. Awesome stuff
